AI Policies and Appropriate Use(OBJ.4.10)

By Jonathon Eades Founder & IT InstructorUpdated

8 min read

A central part of understanding the basics of AI is knowing how to use AI appropriately and in line with policy. Powerful tools create new responsibilities. As a support technician, you are expected to understand acceptable use, respect intellectual-property and academic-integrity concerns, follow your organization's AI policy, and disclose AI use when required. This article covers the policy and professional-conduct side of AI — the part that keeps a technician and their employer out of trouble.

In this article you'll learn what "appropriate use" of AI means, how acceptable-use policies apply to AI tools, why plagiarism and academic-integrity concerns matter even in a workplace, how to follow an organizational AI policy, and when and why disclosure of AI use is expected.
