CompTIA A+ PBQs — FAQ
What is a PBQ on the CompTIA A+ exam?
A performance-based question (PBQ) is an interactive exam item that asks you to complete a task — configure a setting, order a procedure, match components — instead of picking a multiple-choice answer. Both A+ exams (220-1201 and 220-1202) include PBQs, usually at the start.
How many PBQs are on the A+ exam?
CompTIA doesn't publish an exact count, but candidates typically see a handful of PBQs per exam alongside the multiple-choice questions. Each exam has a maximum of 90 questions total in 90 minutes.
Are PBQs worth more points?
CompTIA doesn't disclose exact weighting, but PBQs are widely reported to carry more weight than individual multiple-choice questions. Skipping PBQ practice is the most common reason well-prepared candidates score lower than expected.
Is this PBQ practice free?
Yes — the PBQs marked free are fully playable and graded instantly, with no account required. A free ExamWizardz account unlocks the rest of the library, including the Windows desktop and PC bench simulations.
Can you skip PBQs and come back?
Yes. On the real exam you can flag a PBQ and return to it later. Many candidates do the multiple-choice questions first to bank time, then return to the PBQs.
